Meet Darren Haydar

The best players aren’t just the hardest shot, fastest legs or biggest body. True success takes something extra: a combination of hockey IQ, vision, and confidence. Like Wayne Gretzky famously noted, what set him apart was that he didn’t go where the puck was, but where it was going.

That insight is what set Darren Haydar apart, too. His hockey career proves this and, through 20/20 Elite Hockey, he plans to pass on that hockey intuition.

Darren’s passion for the game started young, while watching his older brother’s games, as it does for many Canadian kids. He was using that time watching from the stands to build a knowledge of the game before ever stepping on the ice. He found himself visualizing himself in plays and, through that, developed an instinct for the game beyond the technical knowledge.

Under Darren’s training, you’ll be learning from the best; someone who has played at the highest levels and under some of hockey’s greatest professionals. Before getting drafted into the NHL, Darren played 4 years of NCAA hockey in the USA for the University of New Hampshire. Drafted in 1999 by Nashville, he played at the NHL level for 14 years with teams like the Predators, Atlanta Thrashers, and Colorado Avalanche.

It was his time in the AHL that earned him the title ‘Player of the Decade’ at Hockey News (2010). From 2002 to 2013, Darren racked up more titles and records to make him one of the best AHL players in history.

In 2004, he won a Calder Cup with the Milwaukie Admirals and, in 2008, he captained the Chicago Wolves to another Championship. He holds the record for the most career goals, assists, and points in AHL post-season history and had a record 39-game point streak in 2007. His proudest achievement, though? Scoring his first NHL goal on Martin Brodeur.

Darren Haydar has played at the highest national and international levels, solidifying a reputation as an athlete with the drive and the skill to succeed. His 20/20 Elite Hockey sessions will pass on the experience that got him there, to the next generation of players.

20/20 Elite Hockey Summer Camp

Darren Haydar’s 20/20 Elite Hockey summer camp sessions were made to help athletes further develop their skillset in a fun and inviting environment – the best way to do so with confidence.

The summer camp sessions are based on professional training camps and will introduce players to off-ice training, as well. Through custom drills and proven strategies, students will leave the camp with a better understanding of the game and the type of player they are.

Each camp will push you to the next level by focusing on key skills, like:

Passing
Shooting
Proper technique of the shot
Puck control
And more

This camp is more than the physical side though; hockey’s mental aspect is also addressed – a fundamental part of success that too often goes ignored during an athlete’s development. We’ll share tips and resources, such as:

How to prepare for games
How to make the most of practices
What it takes to play at your best
How to stay dedicated and committed

Players will leave the 20/20 Elite Hockey summer camp physically and mentally prepared to play at their peak, every game.
